The 120,000 hectares of the Bordeaux wine-producing region, the largest in the world in terms of area, is made up of 57 appellations in a circle around the city of Bordeaux.
In terms of area, the largest (and the best known) are Médoc to the north, Saint Emilion to the east, Graves and Sauternes to the south-west and Entre Deux Mers to the south-east.
